It's Time To Be Proud of Your Progress, NO If, And, or But About It!

In episode 59, Jacqueline talks about how it can be so hard to be proud of ourselves. We tend to focus on how far we still have to go and not realize how far we have already come. When it comes to reaching our goals, especially our weight loss goals, putting conditions on them can make the journey so much harder. Jacqueline and Kevin discuss the importance of looking within. We talk about how important it is to recognize and to feel proud every step of the way, not just when we reach our goals. We need to be proud of all of the steps we take every day to achieve those goals. It’s ok to be proud of where you are now while still working on getting where you want to go. The Yeah buts... only make it harder to truly see how far we have come and will make it harder to be proud when we are constantly putting conditions on our success. Do not wait until you lose weight or until you reach your goals to be proud of yourself. Be proud every step of the way.

Extreme and/or Absolute Views from Others on Social Media Can Be Dangerous.

In episode 58, Jacqueline and Kevin talk about a statement that someone made saying “If a 500-pound person walked into a Krispy Kreme I would be disgusted but if they are in a gym I will support them”. Jacqueline and Kevin go into how statements like this can be very harmful and how we cannot shame someone or body shame, someone, into changing. Jacqueline shares how she used to be over 500 pounds and talks about some insights as to how this makes her feel. She shares some inspiration for anyone struggling with their relationship with food and their body and how you can try to ignore these comments so you can truly be able to do what is best for you. When it comes to weight loss or extreme weight loss, wanting to change has to come from within. People can truly change when they feel loved, and supported, not just in a gym but in life. Jacqueline and Kevin talk about how making your mental health a priority is a key to success and how important it is to stop putting a moral value on food labeling it as good or bad. They discuss how it is important to change the relationship you have with yourself and with food. They discuss how important it is to never judge anyone because you never know what they have been through or where they are going. Ultimately we need to worry about our own mental health and remember to treat others the way we would like to be treated. We don't know where anyone else is coming from or what got them to the point in life where they are right now. Passing hard judgments or making assumptions about others can cause more pain than you realize.

In episode 57, we talk about listening to your body and focusing on the small changes and small victories that you are experiencing every day. Jacqueline is someone who has always struggled with her body and struggled with her weight all of her life. It is hard to sometimes focus on the small changes and small progress when it comes to weight loss and recovery and not just focusing on the end goal but enjoying all the small moments along the journey. The small moments on a weightless journey add up to big results. We discuss the importance of doing what is best for you and your body and how recovery looks different for everyone. It can be hard to not focus on what others might think and to truly just focus on what is best for us. Looking inward and being able to do what you need. Focusing on what your body needs is so important. We also examine the importance of listening to your body and how important it is to actually listen to what your body is telling you. For so long Jacqueline ignored her body and so she shares some moments experienced on our trip to Disneyland and how she actually listened to her body. Recovery is possible and we hope that the moments shared in this episode can help you realize that recovery is possible for you too. We hope this conversation reminds you that you are capable of reaching all of your goals.

In this episode 56, I share my tips for success when beginning my workout routine and how to get started in a workout routine. When beginning a fitness routine or working out it can be intimidating. When you are overweight, plus size, and working out for the first time it can be even more intimidating. It can be hard to know what to do when it comes to finding fitness motivation, fitness inspiration, and figuring out how to start a fitness routine. For me, when I was extremely overweight I did not know what to do for exercise. I began where I could with what I could do. I began walking every day for 5 minutes. This might seem like an easy Beginners workout routine or a simple workout program, but my 5 minutes walk every day meant everything to me. These walks helped to learn how to move my body, how to gain confidence in myself and it just got me moving. Walking is such a great workout and for me, these 5-minute walks were the best thing I could do.

Do you find yourself in the middle of a binge or a moment of struggle and not know what to think or do? This is common and before therapy, Jacqueline found herself in this position quite frequently. Episode 55 is a conversation about the exact thought process that Jacqueline uses when she's in that position. The first thing to think about and remember is that this feeling is not uncommon and it is normal to fall down or "struggle" These thoughts and feelings are absolutely normal. Growing and learning are not about preventing the fall but getting back up after the fall. When these moments happen take a deep breath and take a moment to breathe and remember that you are OK. Allow yourself to feel whatever it is that you are feeling, anger, sadness, frustration, whatever those feelings are feel them and release them then stand back up and keep going on your journey. After the moment passes take some time to think about what happened and if you can why it happened. Journaling these thoughts has helped Jacqueline tremendously. She can look back and try to connect certain feelings or situations with moments of struggle. Next, it is important to address how you felt physically and emotionally after that binge or struggle. This is another key step in using these difficult times to grow and get stronger. After you figure out what happened and how you felt take some time to reflect on those feelings to link the two situations together. Maybe this reflection helps you to figure out why you turned to food. The last thing Jacqueline thinks about and figures out is "What can I do to feel better about this situation?" Maybe the key to avoiding this situation in the future is better planning or better stress management, maybe you need to eat more throughout the day, maybe you need to talk with someone and address an issue that you are holding on to. No matter what it is that you need to do to feel better about the situation it is valuable to remember that you cannot change what has happened but you can look back at this situation and approach the next situation with a different plan or experience. In the beginning, it may not be easy to work through this thought process or experience but the more that you can reflect the easier it will become. You may not have the answers to all of these questions but working through difficult situations can help you grow and overcome some struggles.

Overcoming Self Sabotage, 3 Tips To Help Get Out of Your Own Way
Monday Jun 28, 2021
Monday Jun 28, 2021
This week's conversation for Episode 54 digs deep into self-sabotage. We dig deep into Jacqueline's own experiences with self-sabotage and how she is working on overcoming these difficult situations. We talk about a few examples where Jacqueline found herself in a situation where she very easily could have wreaked havoc on her progress by continuing to go against her best judgment. Jacqueline shares 3 tips that she has learned from her therapist and has implemented into her everyday life with some success. The first tip is to admit and be aware that you are self-sabotaging. When you are aware that you are doing this type of behavior you can work on stopping it or mitigating how long it lasts. Tip number 2 is to make small changes that are sustainable and can help you reach a larger goal. These smaller bites are easier to follow and do continuously. It is much easier to eat a cake in slices or bites rather than trying to eat the entire cake at one time. The third tip is to challenge or test yourself. After you have the first two steps down and you feel comfortable where you are it's time to put some of those changes into practice and see how you respond. It will be difficult and it may feel like you are failing but that is the place you need to be for growth and learning. When we create these situations for ourselves it is much easier to recover rather than trying to go through these experiences out of necessity in "real" life. Try not tracking something at home on a weekend and see how you respond. Try eating something "off" plan and see how you respond. It's much is easier to recover from these situations when you are controlling them not because you are out of town and there is nothing that you can do to fix or control the situation. We hope that this conversation about Jacqueline's experiences can help you if you are on a similar journey.

The 3 things about weight loss that are not talked about nearly enough.
1- It’s going to be hard Ya, I said it. Weight loss is not easy. If you want to lose 5 pounds or 500 pounds- weight loss is hard. It’s not just as simple as “stop eating and workout”. Oh man if I could only keep track of how many times I have personally heard that one. Just stop eating and move more. I wish when I began my journey at 500 pounds that someone would have told me the truth...this is going to be hard. When it became hard, I always thought there was something wrong with me. Why was it hard for only me! What I didn’t realize is that it’s ok that it’s hard. Hard does not mean impossible. So just because it’s hard, doesn’t mean that you aren’t strong enough.
2- You don’t have to be perfect. For so long I strived to be perfect, to never slip up, mess up, go over my calories...I tried so hard to be perfect because that is what I thought it took. If I wasn’t being perfect I wasn’t trying hard enough. Trying to be perfect only lead me deeper into an eating disorder. It’s not about being perfect. It’s doing your best every day and knowing when you “fall down” it’s ok! You just stand back up and keep moving forward!
3- You are not always going to be motivated I don’t care who you are, no one is motivated 100% of the time. I wish I knew this when I began my journey too. On days I was struggling and didn’t feel motivated to keep going, I thought, Why was I the only one struggling, why was I the only one having a hard time...why couldn’t I just be like everyone else. But what I didn’t realize is that no one is motivated all of the time. Realizing this has helped me so much. That is why it is so important to me to build healthy habits and healthy routines that I can stick to, so when my motivation is lacking I can rely on my daily routine and habits to help me out.
