We are back after a short hiatus for Episode 16. We talk about how it is important to take a step back to ground yourself when you feel like things are causing anxiety, sadness, or anger. Typically Jacqueline felt these feelings and emotions and used food as a coping mechanism. Taking this break gave Jacqueline some time to really think about these emotions and think about why she wants to eat or turn to food. Taking the time to breathe, get some movement in, crying, journaling, or taking a hot shower or bath are some of the ways that Jacqueline has learned to ground herself and get back to the basics when she finds herself wanting to turn to food. We discuss these tactics and why Jacqueline has really leaned on in these past few weeks while we were taking a break. We think that these are great coping mechanisms that will apply to many areas of life when life seems to be spiraling out of control and you are being overcome with emotions. We truly appreciate your love and support as we continue on this podcast journey!

Episode 15 digs deep into why Jacqueline has decided to make some changes to her plan regarding recovery from Binge Eating Disorder while still trying to lose weight. We discuss the importance of following the plan and path that is right for you. Sometimes the plan and path that you are following might need to be changed. Jacqueline found herself using the scale to decide when/how much to eat as well as choose her workouts based on if she thought she would burn enough calories. Realizing that she was making these choices based on the scale is what guided her to make a change to her current plan and to stop daily weighing. We talk about how it is important to be self-aware and honest so that you can think about why you are making the choices that you are and make sure that they are helping you reach your goals instead of just spinning your wheels while not making any progress. We hope that this discussion serves as a reminder that the road you may be traveling might need some work and a detour may just be what you need to keep making progress.

How did Jacqueline come to weigh over 500 pounds?
Monday Aug 10, 2020
Monday Aug 10, 2020
Episode 14 follows Jacqueline as she talks about and shares how she found herself weighing more than 500 pounds. Getting to the place where she is now, has allowed her to look back and to think and talk about what went on as a child and young adult that led her to her lowest of lows. Those situations are what we talk about in this episode and how they led her to that bathroom stall in Disneyland that changed her life forever. Without all of those moments leading up to that moment her life might never be what it is today. Being able to look back and know what she knows now makes it easy for her to share her journey and experiences and remind people that you need to do what is best for you and to be mindful of everything you say and do because you never know who may be watching and listening to your choices and actions.

Episode 13 is all about the "Cheat Meal." Jacqueline has experienced her fair share of "cheat" meals and these experiences along with her remarkable weight loss journey have helped her form some of the opinions and stories she shares in this episode. We talk about why we both feel that treat meal is a better name for this type of eating and how we think everyone should feed those cravings while still being mindful of what and how they are consuming whatever their treat may be. Changing the way you view and think about food takes lots of time and practice but just like with many other things in life when you realize that there may be a problem you can work on resolving those issues.

Episode 12 tries to answer one of the questions that Jacqueline gets asked most..."How do you handle food restraint and food restriction?" We dive into how food restraint and food restriction mentally and physically affect your body and actions. We discuss how creating hard, strict rules regarding food lends itself to a binging cycle. Rules will be broken and when the rules are broken you will feel like it is ok to eat whatever it is that you aren't allowing yourself to eat. We dig a little deeper into how and why these rules, restraint, and restriction lead to the vicious cycle of binging and then repeating the cycle. We hope that this discussion and Jacqueline's experiences are helpful in answering your questions about how to handle restrictions surrounding food. Episode 11 dives a little bit deeper into Jacqueline's Binge Eating Disorder. We talk and discuss how she found herself diagnosed with BED as well as what she feels led up to becoming a binge eater. After talking about when, why, and how she discovered these disordered thoughts and actions we talk about what she is doing to overcome these behaviors. It is very well known that many eating disorder circles around social media believe that ED recovery and weight loss can not work at the same time, but Jacqueline finds herself in the very position of facing both weight loss and BED recovery simultaneously. We also talk about a situation that happened this week when she reached out to a brand that posts about recovery and how they responded to her comment. We hope that the topics and discussions in this week's episode can help our listeners to think about their own situations and help them to become more aware of how their thoughts and actions affect how they feel and respond even if they aren't necessarily suffering from an eating disorder. We absolutely both feel that every individual is unique and that no matter what their experiences are they will require a unique approach to resolve their struggles. Recovery does not look the same for everyone, what works for one person may not work for everyone else. You need to do what is best, and what works for you!

Exercise for Weight Loss: Start Moving Even If It's Only for 5 Minutes!
Monday Jul 13, 2020
Monday Jul 13, 2020
Episode 10 is all about exercise and the mindset surrounding exercise. We talk about how Jacqueline started exercising even when she weighed over 500 pounds. We discuss the importance of starting your exercise routine at the level you feel comfortable with and how this will help to grow your confidence not only with working out but with everything you do. Being able to say "yes I did my workout today" no matter how short or long will help you feel like you can do it. When you can do it every single day you will start to believe that you can push yourself a little more each time to improve where you are and what you can accomplish every time you exercise. These small victories add up and lead to you want to push yourself to explore different types of workouts. When you find an excuse to skip that workout it just becomes easier to keep making those excuses. Get out there and get started with exercise even if it is only for five minutes. You CAN do that! Get moving, learn how your body feels while its moving and keep pushing that comfort zone a little bit each and every time you decide to exercise. After you keep making these little changes for extended periods of time you will find that you have made some big progress! The sooner you start exercising the sooner you will see those results, the longer you keep making excuses the easier it will be to keep finding another excuse.
Thanks for listening! Get out there and move your body like nobody is watching and remember, it's never too late to fly!
