
Jacquline Adan has always struggled with her weight, body image, and her relationship with food. After hitting rock bottom when she got stuck in a turnstile, in her favorite place in the world, Disneyland. She found herself weighing over 500 pounds and turned her life around by losing more than 300 pounds. She achieved this remarkable feat by changing her diet and starting to exercise. Kevin has been with Jacqueline through it all, from the struggles of her weighing over 500 pounds to the ups and downs of her 300-pound weight loss journey. Through candid conversations with each other and with special guests the Never Too Late to Fly podcast will journey down the paths of life's struggles, love's hardships, and the importance of never giving up on your goals. In Episode 29 we have a conversation about resolutions, wrapping up 2020 and starting 2021. As we finish up what has turned out to be the crazy year of 2020 we can easily fall into the traps of thinking and feeling like this past year has been a failure because you have not reached all of the goals/resolutions that you had set at the beginning of the year. It is also easy to fall into that comparison game of thinking that this past year has been a failure because you have not had the same success as everyone you see on social media. We dive deep into how we choose resolutions and why we think it is better to pick resolutions that help you live the life that you want. Making many smaller goals to help you reach big goals can lead to you being successful and reaching those big aspirations you have for yourself. We hope that as you listen to this episode that you can reflect back on the year that has passed and be thankful for where you are. Our hope is that you can take that time and be thankful for where you are and think about where you want to go as we get started in 2021 and set some smaller attainable goals to help you get where you want to be in the new year.

Jacqueline starts an in-depth conversation about her skin removal journey that has her sharing not only the physical complications that excess skin was causing but the mental struggles that followed because of that same excess skin. We talk about the possibility of avoiding loose skin altogether as well as why you shouldn't allow loose skin to stop you from starting a weight loss journey. The realization that loose skin was inevitable led Jacqueline to fight for herself and continue her personal journey to lose weight even as she found herself covered in loose skin. The physical and mental struggles from that loose skin that followed her 350-pound weight loss are what ultimately led her to choose skin removal for herself. After sharing about how she knew that skin removal was right for her she then discusses how she chose a surgeon and why she knew that he was the right surgeon for her. We wrap up this first skin removal episode by talking about the costs of having skin removal and how each case is as different and unique as each individual who may be considering skin removal.

Episode 23 covers goal setting and using S.M.A.R.T. goals to reach a larger overall goal. Jacquline shares about her journey and how using this specific type of goal setting helped her achieve her tremendous weight loss success as well as how she is still using this type of goal setting. Smart goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. We talk in-depth as to how and why this type of goal creates more success when you use process type goals that will help you to achieve your overall larger goals. You don't set a S.M.A.R.T. goal to lose 300 pounds...you set many S.M.A.R.T. goals that help you with water intake, exercise, food/eating, etc that allow you and help push you towards that overall weight loss goal. When you set small goals that you can achieve you get that positive boost of feeling good about the accomplishment that keeps you motivated instead of feeling overwhelmed and defeated because you are in a negative place and feel as if you can never accomplish anything. Put a plan in place and continue to push and you will be able to put S.M.A.R.T. goals in place to help you achieve ANYTHING that you set your mind to.

Join us for Episode 21 as we talk about some of the hardest things that Jacqueline had to face on her weight loss journey. Some of these things are things that Jacqueline has found ways to overcome and some of these things she still fights daily. We discuss how she fights self-anger and guilt, especially regarding weight gain. We also dig deeper into why putting a timeframe on your weight loss journey can make the already difficult journey harder. We also talk about how putting weight loss as a condition to happiness is very dangerous and how self-love is so very important when it comes to happiness and success. Self-doubt can also play a major role in happiness and success. When you are constantly second-guessing if you are able to be and going to be successful it is hard to keep moving in the right direction. Lastly, we dig deep into why it is important to be aware of other people's opinions but to not allow them to control you or your behavior. Jacqueline's experience with losing weight and growing mentally in the way she thinks and views herself have allowed her to look back and overcome many difficult situations. Even as she still battles with some of these difficult obstacles she knows that by looking inward and making the best choices for her she is always moving in the right direction. The journey to lose weight is not easy and there are many ways to make it more difficult but Jacqueline wanted to share some of her experiences to help herself as well as others on a similar journey to overcome some similar difficulties.
