Overcoming Self Sabotage, 3 Tips To Help Get Out of Your Own Way

This week's conversation for Episode 54 digs deep into self-sabotage. We dig deep into Jacqueline's own experiences with self-sabotage and how she is working on overcoming these difficult situations. We talk about a few examples where Jacqueline found herself in a situation where she very easily could have wreaked havoc on her progress by continuing to go against her best judgment. Jacqueline shares 3 tips that she has learned from her therapist and has implemented into her everyday life with some success. The first tip is to admit and be aware that you are self-sabotaging. When you are aware that you are doing this type of behavior you can work on stopping it or mitigating how long it lasts. Tip number 2 is to make small changes that are sustainable and can help you reach a larger goal. These smaller bites are easier to follow and do continuously. It is much easier to eat a cake in slices or bites rather than trying to eat the entire cake at one time. The third tip is to challenge or test yourself. After you have the first two steps down and you feel comfortable where you are it's time to put some of those changes into practice and see how you respond. It will be difficult and it may feel like you are failing but that is the place you need to be for growth and learning. When we create these situations for ourselves it is much easier to recover rather than trying to go through these experiences out of necessity in "real" life. Try not tracking something at home on a weekend and see how you respond. Try eating something "off" plan and see how you respond. It's much is easier to recover from these situations when you are controlling them not because you are out of town and there is nothing that you can do to fix or control the situation. We hope that this conversation about Jacqueline's experiences can help you if you are on a similar journey.
